FARGO — Deng Geu’s basketball career that started in junior high in Fargo and moved to Sioux Falls, S.D., in high school has found another destination. This one is a little farther south.
The former North Dakota State forward, who announced last month he was going to use the NCAA graduate transfer rule, has ended up at the University of North Texas for his final season of eligibility.
The Denton Record-Chronicle newspaper reported Geu and forward Thomas Bell from Kaskaskia College (Ill.) will both transfer to the Mean Green.
There doesn’t appear to be a lot of room on the roster; North Texas lost three seniors, only one was a starter, from last year’s team that finished 21-12 overall, but 8-10 in Conference USA. UNT was beaten by No. 2 seed in Western Kentucky in the quarterfinals of the league tournament.
The 6-foot-8 Geu was NDSU’s third-leading scorer last season averaging 9.6 points and 4.9 rebounds. His departure has the Bison on the hunt for another inside player for the 2019-20 season. NDSU returns everybody else from a team that won the Summit League title and a first-round game in the NCAA tournament.
