TOWNER, N.D. -- A 5-year-old girl was killed Saturday, July 18, when she was struck by a pickup in a driveway in Towner, N.D.

The accident was reported just after 3 p.m., according to the North Dakota Highway Patrol. According to the report, Samuel Leighton, 21, was moving a 2005 Ford pickup in a driveway in the city of Towner. After moving about 50 feet, he got out and saw the child laying in the driveway. He did not realize he struck the girl until after he parked the truck, the patrol said.

The child was taken to Trinity Hospital in Minot, where she was pronounced dead. The accident remains under investigation. Towner is about 45 miles east of Minot.
