A motorcycle enthusiast in her younger years, when she rode with her husband, Elmer, Berger was given a special ride on her 80th birthday by her friend, Duane Drum.

She told friends that if God allowed her to live to age 90, she would love having another ride. So, 10 years later, Drum picked her up and gave her another memorable, lengthy ride, which included a trip through Villard and Carlos.

But that wasn't all that was in store for Berger on her 90th birthday. On that day, an act of kindness she showed six years earlier came back to her.

The kindness was shown to WCCO-TV news anchor Don Shelby, who has a cabin on a Douglas County lake and has been an announcer at local events, such as Jingle Bells telethons.

Six years ago when Shelby became ill, Berger sent him a cheer card. To her surprise and delight, he sent her a hand-written note of thanks and a photo.

Because of Berger's admiration for Shelby, her family included him on the guest list to her 90th birthday party.

He accepted the invitation and surprised her by attending the party and giving her a bouquet of flowers.

Berger is looking forward to more excitement in 10 years, when she celebrates 100 years!
