David Russell Ege, age 19, died on Feb. 17, 2009, in Morris, where he attended the University of Minnesota, Morris. He was born on Aug. 11, 1989, in Grand Marais and lived there until graduation from high school.

David is survived by his parents, Duane and Joan Ege of Grand Marais; his parents, Lori Cass and Tracey Callahan of Fridley; his brother, Dennis Dimka (Anna) of Minneapolis; his sister, Jessica Glaza of Minneapolis; his grandmother Kathleen Dimka of Port Edwards, Wis.; nine aunts; nine uncles; 22 cousins; and many, many friends. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Oswald and Melissa Ege.

David was gentle and kind, a talented artist, craftsman, writer and musician. He lived life with compassion and integrity. David touched every person who knew him with his sincere and loving spirit. Sadly, he took his own life. Words cannot express our sorrow and the hole left in our hearts.

Visitation will be held on Monday, Feb. 23, from 5-8 p.m. at Methven-Taylor Funeral Home, 706 4th Avenue N.W., New Brighton. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 24, at 11 a.m. at St. Andrews Lutheran Church in Mahtomedi. A memorial service for David will also be held in Grand Marais on Sunday, Feb. 22 at 1 p.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Grand Marais. Memorials are preferred. Methven-Taylor Funeral Home in New Brighton is in charge of arrangements.
