Unless bad weather causes delays, the S. Wasson Lane bridge should re-open next week. The city closed S. Wasson in early May from Cascade Avenue to the Cemetery Road roundabout to start a complete reconstruction of the bridge.

City Engineer Reid Wronski said the structure's deteriorating supports and reduced-load advisory made its replacement a priority. Crews poured the bridge-deck concrete last month and since then have finished grading work and added curbs, gutters and railings.

Workers will re-pave the bridge approaches before it opens, and Wronski said some work will continue after that. The railing must be stained, some dirt work remains, the area will be seeded and the electric company will move a few power lines back into place.
