GRAND FORKS—Don Lucia has stepped down after 19 years as the head men's hockey coach at the University of Minnesota. The announcement comes two days after the Gophers missed the NCAA tournament for the fifth time in the last 10 years. Lucia came to Minnesota from Colorado College in 1999 and won back-to-back NCAA national championships in 2002 and 2003. Lucia will remain on staff for a year as a special assistant to athletic director Mark Coyle.
The latest stop on the Olympic gold-medal victory tour for Grand Forks natives and twin sisters Jocelyne and Monique Lamoureux included an appearance on the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. The Lamoureux twins, who led the Americans to gold in the 2018 Pyeongchang Games, appeared on Monday night's episode in New York City. They also appeared with team captain Meghan Duggan and goalie Maddie Rooney. Fallon asked Jocelyne and Monique about being twin sisters and Jocelyne's game-winning shootout goal.
GRAND FORKS -- University of North Dakota defenseman Christian Wolanin scored on a penalty shot in the second period. Wolanin skated around Ralph Engelstad Arena, firing up the crowd, and the building was buzzing. On the next shift, Colorado College killed it. The Tigers answered both of UND’s second-period goals within a minute and went on to earn a 4-2 win on Friday night in front of 11,517. During the past 20 years, Kellie Elliott has spent time in numerous roles in the athletics world across the country. She's been at Yale, San Jose State, Florida State, Stanford, Cal, as a consultant and currently is the deputy athletic director at Texas-San Antonio. Elliott says all of those experiences have prepared her to be the next athletic director at UND. Elliott addressed a crowd of people at an open forum at the Gorecki Alumni Center on Tuesday afternoon. She was the third person to interview for the job.

The highest ticket prices in UND athletics history didn't at all slow down the mad dash of fans trying to find their way into the North Dakota-Minnesota hockey series next month. The rivalry series, being played in Ralph Engelstad Arena for the first time in six seasons, instantly sold out this week, despite record ticket prices of $99 for both adult and youth tickets.
