Blue Devils snap losing streak with win over GC
The seniors were gone on their annual class trip but Plum City was able to snap a three-game losing streak and stay on top of the Dunn-St. Croix Small Division with a 9-3 win over Glenwood City Monday. Meanwhile, Elmwood stayed hot, toppling Spring Valley 7-4.
PC won at home without three starters by getting the early lead on the Hilltoppers with a four-run first inning. They added three more runs in the fourth.
The Devils were led at the plate by Kris Krueger, a perfect 3-for-3 with a double and three RBIs. Winning pitcher Chad Fox struck out 10 batters.
Plum City is 5-5 in the D-SC Small standings. Elmwood moved into second place at 4-6 with its win at Spring Valley Monday. The Cardinals are also 4-6.
The Raiders have won three games in a row and four out of their last five. Shane Meyers was a perfect 4-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Justin Keenlyne had two hits for the Raiders. Tanner Hoyt was the winning pitcher with Logan Wolf getting the save.
However, the schedule gets very tough for Elmwood as they play at St. Croix Central Thursday and host Colfax next Monday. SV's next two games on the same dates are Glenwood City at home and Elk Mound, also at Syverson Park. Plum City is at 3-7 Pepin Thursday and hosts Boyceville next Monday. PC will be without its seniors for the remainder of the week but will have them back by Monday.
Keep up with the race for the D-SC Small title on the Herald website in the print edition next week.
